David Friesen: Schmittke – really a wonderful band, interesting original music, arrangements and very good soloists. Gerhard Schmitt has some really wonderful qualities in his playing as a soloist and as a bandleader.
Gerhard Schmitt studied jazz guitar in Linz/Austria with australian guitar player Peter O’Mara from 1993 to 1997. He graduated with distinction.
In 1997 he received a scholarship for the Berklee College of Music Boston/USA.
Today he’s playing in the band of the well known american show production “Blue Man Group“.
He plays electric zither, chapman stick, guitar and bass there.
Apart from that he’s recording and touring with his electronic jazz project “trondheym“. “trondheym” has so far released two albums on NRW records.
