This amp defined the sound of heavy music in the 1990s, from metal and thrash to nu-metal, grunge and pop-punk. Bands like Metallica, Korn, Tool, Soundgarden, Deftones, and Limp Bizkit all used the MESA/Boogie® 90s Dual Rectifier to shape their signature heavy tones, from crushing distortion to thick, scooped-mids rhythm tones that defined ’90s metal and nu-metal genre. All tones were captured with a Royer R-121 ribbon microphone and a Shure SM57 dynamic microphone, positioned to show off the Celestion speakers in the cab.

This playthrough shows you how to get the heavy metal and metal tones from a MESA/Boogie® 90s Dual Rectifier, which is arguably the ultimate amp of the 90s used by your favourite heavy metal and nu-metal bands, even pop punk bands too. With VINTAGE/ORANGE and MODERN/RED channels, tube/silicon diode rectification and 100-watt Class A/B tube power, it has crushing distortion and improved cleans so you can dial in any sound you want making it extremely versatile.
