Solo sections in instrumental songs often require an elusive magic. They function differently as in vocal songs. These old clips show me chasing that magic in the analog tape days, where every punch-in was a courageous yet destructive process. There was no “un do-ing”. Each new take wiped the old take out of existence, forever. Kudos to John for his engineering talent, professionalism and punch-in nerves of steel!
